EmergingAI procurement, vendor assurance and value management

AI Value Realisation Analyst

Also called AI ROI Analyst

An AI Value Realisation Analyst checks whether AI deployments create real, verified business value. They give leadership evidence on what to keep, fix or stop, so spend follows results rather than promises.

What they do

They start by agreeing what a deployment was meant to achieve, then set a baseline before or alongside rollout. They work with product, finance and operations teams to gather usage and outcome data. They test whether changes in cost, speed or revenue came from the AI or from something else. They adjust savings for quality, such as error rates and rework. They keep a benefit register, run evaluations against vendor claims, and write up findings with the limits of the evidence stated plainly. Often this work sits inside finance, procurement or strategy titles.

What a strong hire delivers

Within the first months, a strong hire agrees a small set of measures with business owners for the live deployments that matter most. They produce a first benefits study with a clear baseline and honest attribution limits. They set up a benefit register that finance trusts. They also give leadership a clear view of which deployments are earning their keep and which need a decision.

How you can tell they are good

Ask them to walk through a benefits case they measured. Strong people explain how they built the baseline, what else could explain the result, and what they adjusted for quality. They are comfortable saying a benefit is unproven. Ask what they did when the numbers disappointed a sponsor. Be wary of anyone who only quotes vendor figures or headline time saved.

Why it is hard to fill

Few people have held this title, because the work is new and usually sits under other names. Candidates tend to be strong in one area, such as finance or procurement, and thin on model evaluation or causal reasoning. Those who have all three are rare. We often have to read across CVs, look at what someone actually measured, and judge whether they can close the gap in the weaker area.

Where to find them

Look first at procurement and third-party risk teams that already assess technology suppliers. Finance business partners, benefits and transformation managers, and technology evaluation analysts are also good sources. Some come from consulting or analytics teams that measure programme returns. Larger organisations with several live AI deployments tend to have the most experience, though a few sit inside AI-native companies reviewing their own tools.

Indicative pay

Not enough published evidence yet to give a fair range for this role, which is common for work this new. We benchmark it for you as part of a search.

Interview questions for an AI Value Realisation Analyst

  1. Tell us about a time you measured the benefit of a technology deployment. How did you set the baseline?

Strong answers describe a baseline set before or alongside rollout, the data sources used and how gaps were handled. They name the limits honestly. Worry if the baseline was reconstructed afterwards without caveats or relied on sponsor estimates.

  2. A team says an AI assistant saves hours each week. How would you test that claim?

Look for sampling, comparison groups or before and after data, and a check on what happened to the saved time. Strong candidates separate time saved from value realised. Worry if they accept self-reported figures.
