Dataset curation and stewardship
Dataset curation and stewardship is the work of choosing, documenting and maintaining datasets so that a team knows what is in them and what it may do with them. AI companies need it because model quality and legal exposure both start with the data.
Models now train on larger and more varied data, and the questions about where it came from and what it permits are arriving from customers, partners and regulators. Most teams have ingestion covered. Few have someone who decides whether a dataset is fit for use. The hires are tricky because the best people come from archives, information science or governance, not machine learning. They need enough technical fluency to earn the trust of researchers.
