Education, assessment and learning AI is the work of building and testing AI that teaches and assesses people. It matters because a tutoring product that cannot show learning gains, or an assessment that cannot show validity, will not last in schools or universities.

More AI products are going into classrooms, universities and training programmes, and buyers now ask for evidence that learners benefit. Few engineers can supply it. Hiring is tricky because the strongest people come from teaching, learning science, psychometrics or education technology, and each sees only part of the problem. Look for someone who has run a real study, can explain what the results do not show, and respects the teachers who will use the product.
