Investment Research AI Workflow Specialist
Also called AI Investment Research Specialist
This person builds AI assistance for investment research where every claim links back to its source and an analyst can check it. It matters because a fast answer nobody can verify is not usable in a research process.
What they do
They map how analysts actually research: reading filings, pulling market data, building and checking models, writing up a view. Then they design where a model helps and where it should stay out. They build workflows that link each output to its evidence, with review steps before anything reaches a decision. They test outputs against analyst judgement, track where sources are misquoted or numbers drift, and tune the workflow. They use backtesting, statistics and time-series methods to check whether a signal or summary holds up. Much of the day is spent with analysts, watching what they trust and what they redo.
What a strong hire delivers
In the first months, a strong hire delivers one working research workflow used by real analysts on real coverage. Each output carries attribution to its source and a clear review step. They set up a way to measure source accuracy and analyst-verified usefulness, and report on it plainly. They also leave a short record of known failure cases, so the team knows where the assistance is weak and what to check by hand.
How you can tell they are good
Ask them to walk through a workflow they built and show how a single claim traces back to its source. Strong candidates explain how they measured accuracy, what analysts rejected and why, and what they changed. They talk about failure modes without prompting, such as stale data, misread tables and confident wrong numbers. Be wary of anyone who only shows demos or cites model benchmarks.
Why it is hard to fill
The work is emerging and often sits inside titles like quant researcher, research analyst or data scientist, so job titles tell us little. The mix is uncommon: someone with statistical rigour, real investment research sense and the patience to build review controls. Quants often lack feel for how analysts work. Analysts often lack the validation skills. Candidates with both are few, and most are not looking under this title.
Where to find them
Look at quantitative researchers and analysts in asset managers, hedge funds and trading firms who have started building tools for their own desks. Also consider model validation specialists from banks, data scientists in research platforms and market data providers, and engineers from trading systems teams. Fintechs building research products are another source. Many will describe themselves as quants or analysts, not as AI specialists.
Indicative pay
Not enough published evidence yet to give a fair range for this role, which is common for work this new. We benchmark it for you as part of a search.
Interview questions for an Investment Research AI Workflow Specialist
- Describe a research workflow you built where outputs had to be traced to sources. How did you make attribution work?
Strong answers describe concrete mechanisms: linking claims to documents and passages, handling data tables, and checking quotes. They explain how attribution failures were caught. Worry if attribution is vague, added afterwards, or relies on trusting the model's own citations.
- How would you measure whether an assistant is useful to analysts, beyond whether its answers look plausible?
Look for analyst-verified review, sampled checks against sources, tracking of corrections and time saved, and separating usefulness from accuracy. Worry if the answer is only model benchmarks, user satisfaction scores or the candidate's own judgement.
