Agent Ecosystem Manager

Also called Agent Marketplace / Ecosystem Manager · Partner Ecosystem Lead (Agents)

An Agent Ecosystem Manager curates the third-party agents, plugins and skills that run on an AI platform. They keep the catalogue useful, safe and commercially worthwhile, so customers find real value and partners keep building.

What they do

They decide which third-party agents, plugins and skills get onto the platform and which are removed. They set listing standards, review how each one behaves in practice, and work with partners to fix gaps. They talk to builders about what to make next and to customers about what they cannot find. They track which listings are used, which are abandoned and which cause support problems. They work with product, security and sales teams to shape partner terms, onboarding and promotion. Much of this work sits today inside partnerships, product or solutions roles.

What a strong hire delivers

In the first months, a strong hire gives the company a clear view of what is in the ecosystem and how good it is. They put in place listing criteria and a review routine that partners understand. They fill one or two visible gaps by bringing in partners customers actually want. They also give sales and customer success a shortlist of dependable extensions they can recommend with confidence.

How you can tell they are good

Ask them to walk through a catalogue or partner programme they shaped. Good candidates explain why they turned things down, how they measured value beyond listing counts, and what they changed after something went wrong. Ask them to read a partner's technical pitch and say what they would check. Weak candidates talk only about signing partners, not about quality or customer outcomes.

Why it is hard to fill

Hardly anyone holds this title yet, so searching by job title finds very little. The work is split across partnerships, product, solutions engineering and customer success, and most people have only part of it. The rare candidate can judge an agent technically, read a partner's commercial case and say no firmly. Employers are mostly AI platforms, so the same few people are approached repeatedly.

Where to find them

Look first at platform partnerships and ecosystem teams in software companies that run app marketplaces or integration programmes. Solutions engineers and enterprise sales people who have steered customers toward third-party extensions are strong candidates. Product managers for developer platforms and customer success leads who manage integrations also fit. Hands-on exposure to agent frameworks matters more than the exact title.

Indicative pay

Not enough published evidence yet to give a fair range for this role, which is common for work this new. We benchmark it for you as part of a search.

Interview questions for an Agent Ecosystem Manager

  1. Tell me about a marketplace, plugin or partner programme you helped run. What did you decide to include or exclude?

A strong answer names clear criteria, real trade-offs and a decision they stood by. They should show they cared about customer outcomes as well as partner growth. Worry if they only describe volume of partners or sign-ups.

  2. How would you judge whether a third-party agent is safe and good enough to list?

Look for practical checks: behaviour on realistic tasks, data access, permissions, failure handling and support. They should involve security and product colleagues. Worry about vague trust in the partner's own claims or a purely legal checklist.
